Thiruvananthapuram Division on Southern Railway earned Rs854.67 crore in fiscal 2010-11 compared to Rs836.80 crore for the corresponding previous year showing an increase of 2.13% more than last year.
In the passenger front,the Division carried 98.1 million passengers for 2010-11 as against 95.9 million for the year 2009-10. The passenger earnings have shown an increase of Rs38 crore compared to the previous year with the total earnings at Rs584.95 crore, a Railway release said here today.
The quantum of parcel traffic also increased and the parcel earning for the year 2010-11 was Rs19.03 crore.
Intensive ticket checking duly involving RPF has resulted substantial growth in Ticket Checking earnings also reducing the number of cases of ticketless travel. Cumulatively achieved earnings was Rs393.15 lakh up to March 2011 compared to Rs345 lakh in the corresponding period of last year,the release added.
